Students who are considering a career in teaching may wish to incorporate the prerequisites for the UC Davis credential program in their undergraduate program. Some of those prerequisites can be used to fulfill General Education requirements as outlined below.
U. S. Constitution POL 1 (4 units) American National Government (GE Credit: Social Science) or
HIS 17A (4 units) History of the United States (GE Credit: Arts & Humanities) or
HIS 17B (4 units) History of the United States (GE Credit: Arts & Humanities)These courses also meet University Requirements for American History and Institution
English One year of upper- or lower-division composition or literature courses
May satisfy GE Credit: Social-Cultural Diversity
Advanced Composition UWP 101, or 102, or 104 (4 units) - One course from one of these series. Satisfies L&S English Composition requirement
Education EDU 110 (4 units) Educational Psychology; Prerequisite: Psychology 1 (GE Credit: Social Science)
EDU 120 (4 units) Philosophical and Social Foundations of Education (GE Credit: Social Science)
Classroom Experience Minimum of 30 hours of experience in classrooms at the level for which a credential is sought. Seminars offered by the Mathematical and Science Teaching Program are recommended to satisfy this requirement.
